Miku on your pizza box. Miku on your GPS. One of the most unexpected collabs ever made β and we're not letting it disappear.
About This Project
On March 7, 2013, Domino's Japan and Crypton Future Media launched an iOS app developed by Kayac Inc. where Hatsune Miku handled your entire pizza order. Delivery status updates triggered original VOCALOID songs. The pizza box had an AR marker that launched a full live stage. Four songs were made specifically for it by Domino's employees β "Yum Yum Pizza", "SOON!", "Best Driver M", and "Mysterious World". They also put Miku decals all over their delivery bikes.
Miku-themed boxes sold out across all of Japan within six days. Sales were twice what Domino's forecasted. The AR servers shut down after the campaign ended in May 2013, and the app itself disappeared sometime between 2015 and 2017 β sources disagree on exactly when. In 2020, Nick Robinson recovered the .ipa file from an old iCloud account and archived it. That's basically what we have to work with.

Pizza Stage Live
Point your phone at the pizza box. Miku appears and performs a full concert. The songs were written by Domino's employees.
Social Pizza Camera
AR photo mode where you could pick a pose and take a picture with Miku. v2 added new poses. We want to bring this back, probably with even more of them.
Original VOCALOID Songs
The tracks were made by actual Domino's crew members β not professional producers, just people who worked there and liked Miku. We're tracking down every one we can find.
Wallpaper Collection
The app had exclusive Miku wallpapers designed by Domino's crew. You couldn't get them anywhere else. We're putting them somewhere you can.
Delivery Tracking
Each delivery status update triggered a different original VOCALOID song. No boring push notifications β Miku sang your order updates to you.
The Archive
Screenshots, promo materials, video captures, descriptions from people who used it β all going into one place so this doesn't get lost again.

Itasha Delivery Bikes
Domino's wrapped their delivery bikes with Miku decals on all sides β logo, character art, everything. They were riding these through actual Japanese streets.

The Vocalo Creative Club
Domino's Japan launches the Vocalo Creative Club, asking Miku fans to contribute song ideas and illustrations. Domino's employees then write the tracks themselves. By December, three songs are done.
March 7, 2013
The app launches

After May 2013
The AR servers go dark
Once the Miku box campaign ended, the promotional servers were shut down. The AR stage, Pizza Stage Live, stoped working. The rest of the app technically still functions, but it's a shell of what it was.
2015β2017
iOS kills the app
The app was pulled at some point between 2015 and 2017 β either when the iPhone 6 became dominant and 4G support became standard, or when iOS 11 dropped 32-bit app support entirely. Either way, it just stopped being available.
2020
Nick Robinson finds it
Nick Robinson, who had downloaded the app back in 2013, bought a secondhand iPhone 5 from eBay to retrieve it from his old iCloud account. With help from @Brickstiny and @BurritoSOFTWARE, the .ipa was extracted and uploaded to the Internet Archive. He documented the whole thing in a YouTube video called "The Mission to SaveγDomino's App feat. Hatsune Mikuγ".
